Tickets for our upcoming March program, Patty O'Furniture's Comedy Magic Show go on sale starting Tuesday, Feb. 14 at the Children Desk. Our March show will be held on St. Patrick's Day, Saturday, March 17 at 2:00 p.m. in the Tabby Theater. Will Patty ever be able to find his pot of gold? Come see the show and find out!

HB READS Special Storytime "Different" Feb. 23

HB Reads will be hosting a special storytime at our Arts and Crafts Storytime, Thursday, February 23 at 3:30 p.m. This storytime, "Different", is to help children understand and appreciate those who are disabled. Featured at the program will be a blind person with a guide dog, an American sign language interpreter for the hearing impaired, and a story time about the differences between children. The art project will involve the use of a wheelchair.

Alice in Wonderland Ballet Feb. 14 and 15

What a Valentine's Day Treat!
Tickets are now being sold at the Children's Desk for Ballet Etudes' Alice in Wonderland Ballet. The performances are on Tuesday, February 14 and Wednesday, February 15 at 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 each and advanced purchased is highly recommended. The show is roughly 60 minutes long and people should arrive at least 20 minutes before the show starts if they wish to be able to sit together.

Special Valentine Gifts for Library Lovers

Wondering what to get that special someone for Valentine's Day? There are many ways to say, "I love you" while also supporting the library through various fundraisers.

Taste of Huntington Beach Gift Certificates are available online at tastehb.com or at the Circulation Desk. Get to sample some the best wines, beers and food Huntington Beach has to offer. Money raised goes towards the Children's Library. The Taste of Huntington Beach is April 29, 2012 from noon to four.

Have someone's name put on a ceramic fish that will be installed on the library's ocean mural wall. Show someone you care while helping to raise money to support the library's aquarium.

Go green and buy a bookbag from the FOTL (Friends of the Library) and/or the FOTCL (Friends of the Children's Library) for $5.

Paint your valentine a tile that will be installed in the Children's Library. Tiles are $50 or two for $80. Arrange to paint a tile by calling 714-374-5330. Money raised goes towards Books for Kids.

Volunteer Workshop First Wednesday of every month

A workshop for teens and adults interested in shelving books and teens interested in reading aloud to children is held the first Wednesday of every month at 4:00 p.m. in the Tabby Theater year round. This workshop lasts less than one hour and must be attended before one can start volunteering. Teens need to be at least 12 years old and volunteers 18 years and older will need to be fingerprinted before they can start volunteering.

Adults interested in reading aloud to children can join our GAB program. Please contact Janet Judson at 714-374-5330.
Adults and teens interested in being homework tutors may contact Barbara Richardson at 714-374-5338. Tutors should be willing to dedicate at least one and 1/2 hours a week during the school year for the Homework Club Program.

Family Evening Pajama Storytime February 9

Family Evening Pajama Storytime will be on Thursday, February 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Tabby Theater. This event is free and children may wear their pajamas.
Enjoys stories, songs and puppets about Valentines, Groundhogs and Presidents. National Charity League will be giving out cookies to the children after storytime.

Get Homework Help at the Library!

Central Library's Homework Club meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. in the downstairs Maddy Room.

Oak View's Homework Club meets Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and Wednesdays from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Children and parents will register with the onsite coordinator and will be assigned to a tutor. Children will need to bring their assignments and text books with them.

Adults and seniors interested in being a homework tutor can contact Barbara Richardson at richardb@hbpl.org. Volunteers 18 years old and older will need to be fingerprinted.

Tile Painting, Engraved Book Spines and FOTCL Bookbags

Tile Painting Certificates are available for purchase. Give a great gift and help the library while doing so. Proceeds will go towards the Books for Kids campaign.

Tile Painting Gift Certificates are $50 per single tile, $80 for two tiles. Tiles, glazes and brushes are provided by the library. Have a painted tile display on a wall in the Central Library Children's Department.

The FOTCL, Friends of the Children's Library, are selling canvas bookbags for $5 each. Bags are sold at the Children's Desk at the Central Library.

Books For Kids are selling carved wooden bookspines which are being installed on a specially designed donor shelf in the entrace of the Children's Library. These spines are $1,000.00 each and are engraved with donor names and logos if desired. Flyers about these special spines are available in the Children's Library.
